Plasma monitor
A plasma display panel (PDP) is a flat display device using a gas-discharge phenomenon to display images. A plasma display device produces a desired image using plasma discharge. A discharge is generated when a potential greater than a certain level is applied to two electrodes separated from each other under a gas atmosphere in a non-vacuum state. PDP utilizes an external voltage to cause gas discharge inside the panel to produce the ultraviolet rays. The ultraviolet rays excite R, G, and B phosphorus to generate the visible R, G, and B lights. The luminescent principle of the PDP is the same as that of fluorescent lamps. A vacuum glass trough is filled with inert gas. When a voltage is applied to the glass trough, plasma is generated and radiates ultraviolet (UV) rays. The fluorescent material coated on the wall of the glass trough adsorbs the UV rays, hence the fluorescent material radiates visible light including red, green and blue light. For display in full color, the plasma display device is provided with phosphor layers which emit respective lights having these respective three primary colors, that is, red (R), green (G) and blue (B). Phosphor particles of each phosphor layer are excited by ultraviolet rays generated in a discharge cell of the PDP, thereby producing visible colored light. A plasma display device may include a plasma display panel, for displaying images using plasma discharge generated in discharge cells therein, a chassis base, for supporting the plasma display panel, and one or more circuit units, which drive the plasma display panel. Plasma display panels (PDP) can be divided into two types, the direct current (DC) type and the alternating current (AC) type, according to their electrical driving mode. Flat panel display devices such as the liquid crystal display (LCD), the field emission display (FED), and the plasma display panel (PDP) have recently been undergoing rapid development. Plasma display devices using such PDP have many advantages including their capabilities of high-speed display, wider viewing angle, adaptability for upsizing, higher display quality because of the self-luminous function, and the like, as compared to liquid crystal display panels.
