MP4 player
An MP4 player is a digital video player that adopts MPEG-4 standard. The recent development of digital technology promoted development of multimedia players for reproducing digitalized music and image files rather than analog data recorded on magnetic recording media. MPEG (Motion Picture Experts Group) provides standards for compressing digital audio and video signals. MP3 (MPEG Layer 3) is the MPEG layer 3 audio standard. MP4 is a CODEC software algorithm that performs compression of multimedia data, such as digital video or movies, to as little as 10 percent of its original size with generally imperceptible losses in quality. MPEG-4 (Motion Picture Experts Group) is used for the coding of natural and synthetic audio-visual data in the form of audio-visual objects that are arranged into an audio-visual scene by means of a scene description. MPEG-4 specifies how to represent units of aural, visual or audiovisual content as media objects, each of which is represented as a single elementary stream. MPEG-4 defines new types of elementary streams that describe where and when the audio-visual information is to be placed in a scene. These new elementary streams in MPEG-4 allow user interaction with the objects in the scene. In MPEG-4, media objects are composed together to create audiovisual scenes. An audiovisual scene represents a complex presentation of different multimedia objects in a structured fashion. MPEG-4 has enhanced error resiliency as compared to previous versions of MPEG so that video data can be more successfully transmitted over such error prone networks. MPEG-4 has adopted fixed interval synchronization and specifics that video object plane (VOP) start codes and resynchronization markers appear only at legal fixed interval locations in the bitstream. MPEG-4 audiovisual scenes are composed of media objects, organized into a hierarchical tree structure, which is called a scene graph.
