Portable television
Recently, because of the need for an information display and a high demand for using portable information systems such as a portable television, light and thin film type flat panel display devices have been actively being commercialized such that the conventional device of a cathode ray tube (CRT) is being replaced. In recent years, portable, compact liquid crystal television receivers have been commercially available. Due to portability of liquid crystal television receivers, they are frequently used outdoors while users are out or travel. Portable TV receivers employing a liquid crystal display are becoming increasingly compact, and the market demand for such receivers is expanding rapidly. A liquid crystal display TV receiver of this type includes an antenna and a tuner unit which is operable to select TV signal channels from signals picked up by the antenna. The receiver also includes a liquid crystal display panel and a liquid crystal display drive circuit for generating digital signals to drive the liquid crystal display panel to display video data contained in the video signal component. In the TV receiver, sound and picture carrier waves pass through an antenna, inducing currents. The carrier currents are converted to intermediate-frequencies and amplified by intermediate-frequency amplifiers. The intermediate frequency signals are detected to provide an audio signal and a video signal. The video signal is fed to the LCD panel driving circuit block for display of a video image. In a portable LCD television receiver, the liquid crystal display panel is provided with a plurality of picture elements, each of which comprises color filters of the three primary colors (red, green, blue) which are arranged in a pattern. Such a liquid crystal television receiver can reduce the size of a television as a whole. Therefore, the receiver can be combined with other equipment, and different functions can be realized by single equipment. Portable TV receiver is normally operated by the built-in battery.
