Strain sensor
Strain sensors are an important and useful tool for measuring and monitoring strain levels in certain structures in order to provide inspection and flaw detection of the structures. Strain sensors have been widely used to detect the magnitude of stress and load as applied to the various places of machines, ships, automobiles, etc Recently, fiber optic strain sensors have become known. In these types of sensors, an optical fiber is appropriately affixed to or fabricated within a structure that is to be inspected or monitored for defects. Strain in the structure is transferred to the optical fiber. Optical sensors for various mechanical quantities have the obvious advantage of being insensitive to electrical interference. Strain sensors have electromagnetic immunity, high resolution and relative ease of interrogation.
