Laser sensor

Laser has been used as a light source of various optical systems. Recently, sensors employing a change in properties of a laser such as frequency, polarization and phase, etc. in accordance with a change in external physical quantities, have been developed. Laser sensors have a variety of applications in many fields. Laser sensors are used to provide an easily perturbable equilibrium, such as in a security system. They also gauge the location and orientation of moving objects, such as on an assembly line. The laser sensors are also used to judge the distance from the sensor to a target. In fiber laser sensors, changes in the refractive index of the fiber on account of external influences, such as e.g. pressure and temperature changes, are converted into a change in the laser wavelength or into a change in the beat frequency between two longitudinal laser modes.
