Laser measurement sensor
Laser measurement systems have been developed that use laser beams to perform various types of measurements, such as the measurement of a shape of an object, the measurement of a speed of a moving object or the measurement of a distance between plural points. Laser measurement sensors are finding increasing use in the squaring and alignment of machine components and construction elements, as well as in distance measurement and related applications, since the nature of the laser beam makes it particularly suitable for defining straight lines and for being accurately detected by light sensitive targets, thus rendering it capable of providing highly precise measurements. Laser interferometry systems are designed to measure distance and, derivatively, motion with exceptional accuracy. A typical laser interferometer architecture uses doppler-shifted laser signals in such a way that the phase difference between a reference signal and a measured signal is equivalent to an absolute position, minus a fixed offset.
