Liquid flow meter
Liquid flow meters measure flow rate of a fluid by measuring undulation of a flexible membrane in response to passage of the fluid through a flow chamber. Liquid flow meters have been used to measure the flow of liquids in long distance and local distribution pipelines, process transmission lines, and delivery of product to tank trucks and railroad cars for transportation. Liquid flow meters can also be used in farming, pharmaceutical and chemical processing, the production of soft drinks and other beverages, food processing, other industries, and almost anywhere the flow of liquid needs to be measured. A variety of measuring devices and the like are now available for supplying information regarding the rate of flow in a liquid flow system. A common flow meter comprises a rate flow indicator in which a semicircular vane member is rotatably mounted and movable by fluid flow through the device. The vane member is connected with indicating means to indicate exteriorly of the device the rotational position of the vane member and thus the rate of flow through the device. Flexible membrane fluid flow meters operate by measuring the undulation of a flexible membrane caused by fluid flow past the membrane in a flow chamber. he flexible membrane spans between two points along the flow path of the fluid and has a length which is long enough to undulate and divide, with a pair of opposing walls, the flowing fluid into discrete quanta, each with a determinable volume. By detecting the motion of the membrane, the movement of the fluid quanta and therefore the flow rate of the liquid can be measured.
