Intercom system

Intercom systems are used in a variety of commercial contexts to provide communication between two or more individuals located remote from one another. Most intercoms are a telephony configuration where a calling user press a button in order to page a person with whom they wish to communicate. More advanced intercom systems provide conference-type communication, simultaneously connecting several intercom stations so that several individuals can communicate with groups and sub-groups of other system users. A typical intercom has an amplifier, two or more stations each with a microphone and speaker or a two-way (microphone or speaker) transducer and a switch interconnecting the microphone, speaker and transducer with the amplifier for communication between the two stations. Intercoms are often provided at the front door of the residence so that the inhabitants of the residence can converse with a visitor standing outside at the front door.
