Fingerprint reader

Passwords and personal identification numbers (PINs) have been used to provide security for financial transactions or to limit data accessibility. Instead of the use of a password to confirm an authorized person's identity, confirmation of the identity of the authorized person is often made by a fingerprint recognition device used for this purpose. Today, the authenticity of a person is often checked through fingerprint collation by using a fingerprint reading apparatus instead of using a password. Fingerprint sensing and matching is a reliable and widely used technique for personal identification or verification. A common approach to fingerprint identification involves scanning a sample fingerprint or an image thereof and storing the image and/or unique characteristics of the fingerprint image. Fingerprint identification is becoming increasingly automated, and as advantages of automatic fingerprint identification systems become more apparent through widespread use, automated fingerprint identification systems are becoming more common and more widely used. Many of such automated fingerprint identification systems input an electronic representation of an unknown fingerprint for use in selection of one or more matching prints from a massive body of stored electronic representations of many fingerprints. A typical electronic fingerprint sensor is based upon illuminating the finger surface using visible light, infrared light, or ultrasonic radiation. The reflected energy is captured with some form of camera, for example, and the resulting image is framed, digitized and stored as a static digital image. An optical fingerprint readers converts the undulations of a fingerprint of a person into intensities of light, converts the intensities to an electric signal by an image pickup unit, then compares the obtained with electric signal with the electric signal of that person that has been stored in advance to check if the person is authentic.
