RF transformer
A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to one or more other circuits, either increasing or decreasing a voltage. A transformer transfers energy through the process of electromagnetic induction. Transformers are commonly employed in electrical circuitry for coupling electrical energy from one circuit to another, and are particularly selected in specific applications to perform transformations of voltage or current, as well as impedance or power matching functions between the coupled circuits. Electrical transformers are used in a variety of microelectronic circuit applications such as power converters, power delivery devices, power isolation devices, and radio frequency (RF) and microwave circuitry including matching networks, oscillators, amplifiers, and filters. RF transformers are used in communication devices to provide for a variety of functions such as impedance transformation and isolation. Transformers are also used in the design of amplifiers and mixers for various of functions. RF signal circuits typically require inductances or transformers having multiple windings to perform standard radio frequency circuit functions.
