Car antenna
Vehicles typically include a multiple of various electronic components. Each of the components typically operates in different spaced apart frequency bands. Examples of such electronic components include amplitude modulation/frequency modulation (AM/FM) radio, satellite digital audio radio systems (SDARS), global positioning system (GPS), digital audio broadcast (DAB) system, dual-band personal communication systems digital/analog mobile phone service (PCS/AMPS), remote keyless entry (RKE) system, tire pressure monitoring system, and other wireless systems. Each component must therefore include its own frequency specific antenna system. It has long been known to mount a satellite antenna (dish) atop a vehicle for purposes of communicating with a geostationary or other type of satellite. Vehicle mounted satellite antennae can provide one-way or two-way satellite communications. Some applications for such antennae include satellite television reception, telephony in remote locations where cellular telephone service is unavailable, and broadband data communications. A GPS antenna for car navigation is in most cases installed on the roof of the car body and is connected by a coaxial cable to the main body of a car navigation device installed in the inside of the car. FM radio antennas are generally mounted on the vehicle in a manner that they are not electromagnetically shielded by the vehicle body structure from the signals they are intended to receive, accordingly such antennas are externally mounted or incorporated in a vehicle window. A typical remote vehicle starting system includes a handheld transmitter with a simple key pad structure that allows the owner of a vehicle to remotely start the engine by depressing the appropriate key. To enable a reliable radio communication between the handheld transmitter and the controller on board the vehicle, a suitable antenna must be installed on the car. The antenna of a remote vehicle starting system is usually mounted inside the car, at some appropriate location in the cabin.
