Snap action switch

A snap action switch is a switch in which the speed of the contacts during actuation of the switch is relatively independent of the speed of the actuating mechanism. Snap action switch mechanisms rely on the use of detents or overcenter positioning to obtain a snap action mechanism. In the snap action type switche the contact making and breaking for a single electric current path involves two stationary contacts cooperating with two movable contacts on a single bridge. Pneumatic snap action switches have a diaphragm and two or more electrical contacts arranged inside the switch body and sealed by the diaphragm so that upon a particular pressure being applied the internal contacts close and the switch performs its desired function. Snap action switches generally are produced and distributed by many manufacturers with internationally standardized dimensions so that the snap action mechanisms of these switches have had the same dimensions for many years.
