Rocker switch
A rocker switch is a device having a plurality of terminals and means operated by a rocker for making and breaking electrical connections between pairs of those terminals. Rocker switches are used as power switches in various kinds of OA (office automation) machines, amusement and game machines, measurement instruments, medical instruments and the like. A rocker switch assembly generally includes a rocker actuator rockably mounted about a rotational axis overlying the switch unit, with wing portions of the rocker actuator projecting from opposite sides of the rotational axis for alternatingly engaging depressible operators of the switch unit. A rocker-type switch generally fulfills the purpose of switching electrical circuits on and off or switching over from one electrical circuit to another. The electrical rocker activated switches are operated by a pivotal action of a rocker operating element, which can be brought into two functional positions in each direction. A rocker switch includes a button that is mounted to a case to pivot about an axis. A spring is typically placed in contact with the button to exert a biasing force that will maintain the button in one or more of the stable positions, and will also maintain or assist in maintaining a force on electrical contacts that are being switched into contact. Rocker switches employed for automotive accessory control typically have a rocker actuator pivotable about an axis and mounted on a switch housing with the rocker member sealed by a flexible boot or bellows to prevent contamination from entering the switch housing.
