Reed relay

Reed relays are electrical devices generally used in applications where fast operating times, reliability, and sensitivity are required. A reed relay includes one or more thin cantilevered metal arms or reeds made of paramagnetic material. In the presence of a magnetic field, the reeds experience a force and move to make contact with one another or another electrode to complete a circuit. A reed switch is a magnetically activated device that typically includes two flat contact tongues that are merged in a hermetically sealed glass tube filled with a protective inert gas or vacuum. The switch is operated by an externally generated magnetic field. Typical applications of reed relays include data processing, communications and computer equipment, logic circuitry and other types of sophisticated control circuits.
