Copier

Electrophotographic marking is a commonly used method of copying or printing documents. Electrophotographic marking is performed by exposing a substantially uniformly charged photoreceptor with a light image representation of a desired document. An electrophotographic copier comprises an image reading unit with a document feeder, and an image forming unit with a copy sheet feeder. Digital copiers are image processing devices which scan an image or document, store a digital representation of the image in memory, and print the digital representation of the image or document. An electrophotographic digital copier is extensively used which scans a photoconductive element or similar medium by a light beam issuing from a light source to electrostatically form a latent image and develops the latent image by a toner. This type of copier is operable not only as an ordinary copier but also as an output unit included in a facsimile transceiver or a computer. Modern electrophotographic copiers can perform double-side copying. The image reading unit in this type of copier reads images on one or both sides of a document, and the image forming unit transfers images onto one or both sides of a copy sheet. When producing a copy with an electronic copier employing an electrophotographic developing process, an exposure lamp of the electronic copier scans the entire length of its document bearing surface. In digital document copying machines, photoelectric converters such as CCD image sensors also form part of the document scanner means. In this case the reflected light of an original sheet is projected strip-wise on a row of photoelectric elements. These then generate image signals which are an indication of the quantity of light incident thereon. Copiers generally have the zooming function for permitting change in copy magnification so as to allow an original image to be enlarged or reduced and reproduced on copy paper of a desired size. A digital copying machine comprises an operation panel for controlling the processing apparatus. To control the processing apparatus, control data are inputted on the operation panel so that processing which corresponds to the control data is executed.
