Portable printer

The advances in portable computers and communication technologies have lead to an increase in mobility. Small, portable printers for use with computers have become very desirable with the advent of portable computers such as the laptop computers and with the advent of portable terminals. Portable handheld computers are typically utilized for data collection and management in the modern computerized business world. With the spread of portable personal computers and word processors, many types of handheld portable printers are now widely used, and some of these portable printers can be equipped with a paper feeder. The usefulness of portable printers has been enhanced by efforts in reducing the size and modularity of printers when compared to their desktop printers. Portable printers typically include a housing and associated carrying handle, a printer mechanism with a platen, a printing element and paper supply, a cradle and associated connector for receiving a portable computer, and a power supply, an internal battery and a power cord for charging or ac operation. Ink jet printers are commonly used as printing sources for business and personal use. Ink jet printers are typically used in portable printing applications, such as portable ink jet printers for travelers.
