Laser toner cartridge
An electrophotographic image forming apparatus, such as a color laser printer, is an apparatus that forms an electrostatic latent image on a photosensitive substance, develops the image using powder toner, and transfers the developed image on a sheet of paper through a predetermined transferring medium to form the image on the paper. A toner cartridge is a developing unit in the laser printer; it is disposed to access the photosensitive substance and contains dry toner, to develop the electrostatic latent image of the photosensitive substance. A laser printer arranges toner on a surface of a photoreceptor drum charged by laser light and sandwiches a sheet between the photoreceptor drum and a transfer roller to place the toner on a surface of the sheet or the like in a shape to be transferred. A toner cartridge is generally comprised of a cylindrical container and a cap. The container has an opening portion for filling of toner into the container as well as for discharging of toner from the container to the toner-receiving container in the image forming system. After attaching the toner cartridge to the laser printer, the knob is rotated so that the toner cartridge is opened to discharge the toner therein into the laser printer. The laser printer has a receiving section that receives the toner cartridge therein. The receiving section has a positioning rib that engages the longitudinal end of the toner cartridge for fastening the end portion, and a guide rib that engages the rotary knob. Toner or process cartridges for laser printing are engineered and manufactured to a high degree of precision necessary for proper operation and good printed image quality. The toner is accommodated in an exchangeable toner cartridge. When the toner runs out, the toner cartridge is exchanged to resupply toner. Toner cartridges for use in electrophotographic imaging apparatus typically include an optical photoconductor (OPC) drum as part of the cartridge.
