Wall lighting

Wall lighting fixtures have been used for many years in environments where it is desirable to have good vertical lighting and brightness control. Such environments include condominiums, hotels, motels, commercial buildings, hospitals, nursing homes, stairwells, vanity areas and various other environments. Recessed wall-mounted light fixtures are commonly used in environmental lighting systems to illuminate walking surfaces adjacent a vertical surface. Such fixtures can be positioned to enhance safety in dark or shadowed areas. Wall lighting fixtures include the common term "sconces" that mount flush onto a wall and contain a light source. Wall sconces are typically self-contained assemblies having a base portion that is permanently mounted by screws or the like on a wall or other support surface. The base portion usually comprises a socket that is permanently wired into the electrical system of the building on which the sconce assembly is installed. Commonly, a wall mounted lamp includes a wall mounting such as a decorative box or plate which is adapted to be hung or fastened to a wall.
