Studio lighting
Lighting quality often determines the quality of a photographic product, whether still or motion. Unnatural shadows impair photographic quality. A wide variety of different studio
lighting systems have been developed to provide desired lighting of an object to be photographed. A number of
studio lighting systems have been employed in the past for generating lighting that lessens the oftentimes-stark appearance created by point sources. It is common to provide a lighting environment in which light completely surrounds an object to be photographed through a diffusing screen mounted between the light source and the object. It is desirable to make the continuous or constant light adjustable to various degrees of brightness, and to vary the amount of light given off by the flash device, in accordance with the adjusted value of the continuous light. Lighting reflectors are used in photographic studios to control shadows on subjects. In fields such as color photography and cinematography, the colors appearing in the final product, be it a photographic print or motion picture diapositive, will depend substantially on both the color temperature and the intensity of the light which illuminated the subject during filming.
