Strobe light

Strobe lights are widely used in industrial and commercial setting in safety, notification, and intrusion systems and the like. In these settings, strobe lights may be mounted on walls and other surfaces, on vehicles and on moving equipment, and they may be located indoors or outdoors. Strobe lights or flashing lamps are often used to indicate that at a particular location assistance of any kind is needed. This may be the case for instance in emergency situations where such an indicator functions as a direct guide to the respective premises. Strobe lights have been widely employed in warning systems such as fire warning systems, security systems and the like. Typically, the warning light includes a flashing bulb positioned horizontally within a reflector. A Fresnel lens may be used to spread the reflected light. The bulb may be powered by a battery source to ensure that the warning light will have power in the event power to the building is disrupted. Electronic strobe lights are popular in the theatrical lighting and special effects market. In many applications, multiple strobe lights are located in various places in a facility, and they are all controlled from a central location. Strobe lamps typically comprise a glass bulb in which are positioned two electrically isolated power electrodes. The bulb is filled with a gas, such as xenon which, when ionized, generates light of high intensity. Xenon flash lamps used in strobe units generally comprise a base with a multiple-pin connection, a quartz tube filled with xenon gas exposed to an anode in one end of the tube and a cathode in another end. The tube, at the anode and cathode ends, is secured in a potting material in the base and connected to the pins.
