Neon light
Neon lights are widely used in commercial applications as decorative enhancements, information communicators and back lights. A neon lamp is generally used to illuminate lights of various colors, especially in advertising signs. The neon advertising signs can be made more attractive and interesting by means of a circuit control system, which is connected with the neon lamp so as to cause the neon lamp to glow intermittently. A characteristic of neon lighting is that the tubing encompassing the gas has an even glow over its entire length irrespective of the viewing angle. The neon lamps may be twisted into various patterns and letters such as a Christmas tree, a star or a name etc. Since neon provides a unique type of bright glowing light, which can be created in various colors, neon is effective during daylight as well as nighttime. Neon lighting is produced by the electrical stimulation of the electrons in the low-pressure neon gas-filled glass tube. Neon lamps usually consist of a pair of electrodes sealed within a glass bulb containing neon at a low pressure. Neon gas discharge lighting is driven by a high voltage ballast. The ballast operates to convert a relatively low voltage to high voltage sufficient to cause the electrode to arc and excite the gas to glow discharge.
