LED light bulb

Incandescent bulbs are commonly used in a variety of applications to provide light. For example, incandescent bulbs may be used as a light source for illuminated switches, lighted panels, displays, legends, indicators, and in a variety of other applications. However, recently interest has been developed in utilizing LEDs as a light source in a light bulb, for example in an indicator or as special lightings. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) offer many advantages over incandescent bulbs. When compared to incandescent bulbs, LEDs produce less heat, operate for a longer life, are less prone to failure in high vibration environments, and consume less power. An LED light bulb can find application in indoor and outdoor applications, and one particular application of utilizing an LED light bulb is to replace incandescent light bulbs automobile applications. Light generating sources for automobiles typically comprise an assembly wherein a light bulb is mounted within a mounting apparatus further comprising a base, which may be reflective, and a light-transmissive cover, which may be tinted to produce a particular illuminated color. In the past, most automotive light sources have involved the use of incandescent bulbs. While working well and being inexpensive, these bulbs have a relatively short life and, of course, the thin filament employed was always subject to breakage due to vibration. Light emitting diode lamps have been used to replace incandescent lamps used in automobiles and other motor vehicles and to replace LED lamps for both single filament and dual filament incandescent bulbs. An advantage to using LEDs is that they typically have an operating life of as much as 100,000 hours before they begin to degrade. LEDs also draw less current from the vehicle's electrical system and emit more light than similarly configured or styled filament light bulbs.
