Robotic system

Robotic systems are commonly used to automate activities that would otherwise require human labor. The robots are programmed to perform different tasks with the intelligence for each robot being either self-contained within the robot or resident in one or more generally centralized computers that control the robot. Robotic systems include manipulators that are designed to move materials, parts, tools or specialized devices through various programmed motions for the performance of a desired task. In a typical robotic system, the multiaxis manipulator is utilized to provide gross movement control so as to generally position work or tool with respect to the workpiece. The manipulators are typically designed to move in different axes of motion to accomplish transport of materials. Modern manufacturing systems often employ robots to automate processes. For example, automated laboratory systems are used widely to reduce the costs of performing multi-step chemical production and testing procedures. Many such systems employ a robotic device to move material, parts, tools or specialized devices through variable programmed motions for the performance of a variety of tasks. In semiconductor manufacturing, robotic systems enable the fabrication of sophisticated electronic devices. Because of the extreme costs associated with semiconductor manufacturing systems and the value of the resulting products, a key goal of these systems is the maximization of throughput. These robotic systems can provide a number of benefits, such as increased production and precision.
