Factory automation system
Automation is often utilized in manufacturing and laboratory environments to reduce the time required to perform processes, such as, for example, manufacturing processes, testing processes, or substance analyses. Factory automation devices such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and IO modules are widely used in industry and process control. In order to use a PLC, the PLC user accesses a control program, usually via software, in order to obtain desired goals. In industrial automation process, a robot or a conveyor is typically employed to move the work sample from one piece of equipment to the next after each operation of the process has been completed. A process may typically be subdivided as a series or sequence of steps. A step relates to one or more operations that are performed upon the work sample in order to analyze or effect change thereupon. In process automation systems, operating and monitoring equipment performs the operation and monitoring of processes in control technology, as well as archiving and documenting the process values generated and process messages from subordinate automation systems. More complex functions could be performed and coordinated if the programmable or computerized machines presently used to control mechanical equipment could be connected in a network with each other and with higher level supervisory computers.
