Barcode printer

A barcode is a pattern representing numeric, alphanumeric, alpha, or other coding schemes whereby the barcode pattern represents an associated symbol or value. Bar codes are now widely used for ready identification of products at goods-in and check-out locations associated. They facilitate the use of fully automatic in-and-out systems and, in some instances, do away with the need for price labels on the products. The bar code is a kind of image, and hence images of bar codes can be formed and printed by using a printing apparatus. Electronic printers, such as thermal printers, laser printers, and ink-jet printers, are used to print on a wide range of print media in a variety of applications. For example, printers are typically used as output devices for personal computers. Another important application of printers is in the printing of symbologies such as bar codes. A bar code printing or reading apparatus is used in various management systems utilizing bar code information representing various data. Barcode printers include interface circuitry between a microprocessor of the printer and the input and output devices of the printer that typically include a keyboard for data entry, a printhead for printing and a motor for advancing past the printhead a supply of the material to be printed on such as labels, tags, etc. Depending upon the specific application, a variety of print media may be used in bar code printers. For labeling of products in inventory applications, for example, bar codes are often printed onto label stock of varying thicknesses and surface textures. Barcodes are sometimes attached as a label. In other words, barcode patterns or indicia can be applied to media that includes an adhesive surface to provide a barcode label. The adhesive surface attaches the barcode-bearing media to an article associated with the barcode. Various bar code printers have been used for printing bar codes on stickers. These bar code printing devices commonly comprise a base frame which holds a sticker reel, a cover pivoted to the base frame which holds a ribbon reel, a motor drive, and a transmission mechanism coupled between the motor drive, the sticker reel and the ribbon reel.
