Thick film resistor

Thick-film resistors are employed in electronic circuits to provide a wide range of resistor values. Generally, a thick film resistor is used as a miniature resistor which is mounted on a printed circuit board. The thick film resistor is sometimes referred to as a chip resistor. The thick film resistor has a predetermined resistance when it is manufactured. Usually thick film resistors are formed by substrate, such as ceramic, in the form of a thin sheet laid down from a suitable resistance ink or paste i.e., one that has a desired resistance characteristic per unit area. In the manufacture of electronic components, thick film resistors are formed by applying a powder paste to a substrate and heating to sinter the powder to form a film. They are formed by printing, such as screen printing, a thick-film resistive paste or ink on a substrate, which may be a printed wiring board, flexible circuit, or a ceramic or silicon substrate.
