Video inspection camera
Video camera systems are utilized in abundance for surveillance, inspection, security, and remote sensing. There are many situations where it is desirable to internally inspect long lengths of pipe which are already in place, either underground, in a building, or underwater. For example, it is often necessary to inspect passages such as water wells, bore holes, pipes, pipelines, tanks or underground cavities. This might be done in order to pinpoint damaged casings, obstruction, or other conditions that can be repaired. Frequently, pipes which are to be internally inspected have an internal diameter of six inches or less. It is sometimes necessary to inspect several hundred feet of pipe. Over the years, video pipe inspection systems have been developed which typically include a camera which is forced down the pipe so that its interior can be viewed on a video display. It is common to record the inspection on a video recorder. In a typical installation, a TV camera is mounted on a sled, preferably with the axis of the camera aligned substantially coincident with the central longitudinal axis of the conduit for accuracy of observation, with a minimum of distortion. The sled is transported by cables between two open surface locations in the line or pipe, such as manholes, and the camera is connected via closed circuit to a monitor at the surface for instantaneous observation of the condition of the conduit section being traversed. The mounted camera is controlled from the outside. The camera detects by viewing the condition of a localized area or the individual structural parts. Line scan cameras are used in various industrial or commercial applications, such as, for example, in the electronics manufacturing process to scan the physical characteristics of a microminiature circuit substrate and its circuit features. Quality control plays an important role in the automatic fabrication of industrial parts, in particular of semiconductor products and, in particular, explained using the example of a semiconductor wafer.
