Underwater camera
Underwater video cameras are used with a topside monitor and a connecting video/power cable for such diverse purposes as to inspect the condition of submerged structures. Underwater cameras have been used for many years in scientific, recreational, and commercial underwater exploration. During more recent times, the use of underwater television cameras has become an increasingly important and desirable tool in underwater exploration. Underwater cameras are sealed against entry of water during use. The camera is connected to wet pan or tilt servo-mechanisms. These servo-mechanisms require special treatment to make them watertight. In underwater photography, the use of a flash lamp is nearly indispensable because of the insufficiency of available light. A flash lamp for underwater photography is usually attached to the tip of an elongated arm member extending from a base plate fastened to the bottom of an underwater camera such that its position can be varied for different ways of lighting, depending on the conditions of the situation when the camera is used as well as the effects desired.
