Embedded processor
An embedded processor is an electronic circuit that uses processors such as general purpose microprocessors or digital signal processors embedded in an integrated circuit. Integrated circuits are important building blocks of the modern age. Technology continues to evolve and integrated circuits continue to provide improved functionality. There are many types of integrated circuit such as memories, microprocessors, application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and programmable logic. Many modern appliances use embedded processors to perform control functions, display information to a user, etc. Personal digital assistants (PDAs), smart phones, television remote controls, automotive engine controllers, and the like all rely upon microprocessors and/or microcontrollers to perform numerous and varied functions. These microprocessors and/or microcontrollers are commonly referred to as embedded processors. Embedded processors may include a digital signal processor, a microcontroller and memory on a single chip.
