Computer mouse

Many pointing devices or input devices have been developed to input position or coordinate data into a personal computer (PC). Common human-computer interface devices used for such interaction include a mouse, joystick, trackball, steering wheel, stylus, graphic tablet, or the like, that is connected to the computer system controlling the displayed environment. The most common devices for interacting with a computer are a keyboard and mouse. With a keyboard, a user can enter data and commands by typing on or pressing the keys of the keyboard. With a mouse, the user moves the mouse on a table or desk top to cause corresponding movement of a cursor on the computer's monitor or display device. A mouse is a device electrically connected to the computer and capable of being moved over a surface by the hand of the computer operator. The motion of the computer mouse over the surface is electronically communicated to the computer to control the movement of a cursor on the screen of the computer. Conventionally, a mouse which is used to move or position the cursor or part of the display of a computer system is generally operated through mechanical transmission. It is generally comprised of a rolling ball disposed at the bottom and driven to rotate in a direction and amount corresponding to movement of a joy-stick and convert translational motion into a position signal for controlling the movement of the cursor or part of the display in a computer system. Mechanical mouse devices incorporate moving parts that can wear out. The roller ball mechanism also requires periodic cleaning to remove accumulated dirt and to prevent internal malfunctioning. To overcome those drawbacks, an optical mouse is provided and has a light transmitter such as light emitting diode (LED), light receiver such as a photo diode and associated components. An optical mouse is operated by reflecting light emitted from the main body of the optical mouse from a touching object (for example, a mouse pad), thus, enabling the movement of the mouse on the pad to be detected and enabling a cursor on a computer monitor to be moved.
