PCB connector, printed circuit board connector

Printed circuit boards (PCB's) with electrical components are widely used in the electronics industry in a variety of products including computers, servers, televisions and telecommunication devices. Various electronic systems comprise a wide array of components mounted on printed circuit boards, such as daughterboards and motherboards. The motherboard to which the daughterboards are connected are generally referred to as backplane as it is stationary. The motherboard and the daughterboard are interconnected by the connectors so as to transfer signals and power throughout the systems. In a typical electronic assembly, a printed circuit board (PCB) is utilized to mount various electronic components, which are interconnected to perform desired functions. In such assemblies, a through hole or surface mounted connector has been utilized to connect the PCB of the assembly to an external system via, for example, a bus. PCBs and conductor are detachably connected to one another through connectors in order to enhance the efficiency in assembling work or maintenance thereof. A typical PCB connector comprises an isolating housing and contact elements which are arranged therein, are preferably formed angled and have a plug-in side, an intermediate portion and a connecting side with contact ends adapted to be mounted at a printed circuit board. In order to provide a multiple pole plug-in connection, a complementary connector can be plugged into such a printed circuit board connector, the printed circuit board connector being either formed as male connector or female connector. In electrical systems, flexible printed circuits are employed as electrical jumpers or cable for interconnecting rows of terminal pins or pads of printed circuit boards. A variety of flexible printed circuits are widely used in electronic devices, such as notebooks, mobile phones and fax machines. Various electrical connectors are adapted for connecting corresponding flexible printed circuits. A connector has typically been formed with a set of electrical receptacles or sockets which are designed to receive the terminal posts or contact the pads on the printed circuit board. A flexible printed circuit (FPC) electrical connector is often used to electrically connect electrical circuits of an FPC to electrical circuits of a printed circuit board or to electrical conductors of an electrical cable. The FPC connector comprises a housing, a plurality of terminals received in the housing, and an actuator rotatably mounted on the housing. Each terminal has a bifurcate contact section and a solder tail soldered onto a PCB.
