Memory card connector
A memory card is a card storage unit including flash memory for a storage medium. Digital electronic products, such as digital camera, MP3 player, cellular phone, etc., are required with larger capacity of storage media to satisfy the demand of digital images and music with higher qualities by the users. A flash memory card is a nonvolatile memory device with a compact housing that does not require a power source in order to retain its memory contents. A typical flash memory card stores charge on a floating gate to represent a first logic state of the binary state system, while the lack of stored charge represents a second logic state of the binary state system. The typical flash memory card is capable of performing a write operation, a read operation, and an erase operation. Flash memory cards with the advantages of small size, large capacities, accessing quickly, and easy to install and carry have become the major storage media in the digital electronic products. Flash memory cards are formed in card shapes in which memory chips are sealed in card type outer shells. Examples of the flash memory cards include ones meeting various standards such as an a multi-media card (MMC), an xD-picture card (XD), a secure digital card (SD), a smart media card (SM), a compact flash card (CF), and a memory stick. The memory card connector often is mounted on a printed circuit board. The connector terminals typically have tail portions for connection to appropriate circuit traces on the printed circuit board. The flash memory card with its fifty pin connector is designed to fit within either a fifty pin flash socket or, with the addition of a passive adapter, a sixty-eight pin PCMCIA socket. SB flash memory cards do not require a specialized reader but can be plugged into a USB connector on a personal computer (PC) or other hosting device. Some memory card connectors are provided with a write-protection function by means of a pair of elastic conductive terminals forming a controlling switch.
