Electrical cable

Electrical cables are known in various configurations for various applications. Electric power cables for medium and high voltage typically include a central core electrical conductor of copper or aluminum, an overlaying semiconductive conductor shield, an electrical insulation layer formed over the conductor shield, a semiconductive insulation shield and a metallic shield overlaying the insulation shield. The transmission of electrical energy at medium voltages, i.e., at voltages or potentials (V) between about 1 KV and 50 KV, is carried out through electrical cables which typically are connected together via junctions. Electrical cables, in particular low or medium-voltage cables for the distribution of electric energy for domestic or industrial use, generally consist of one or more conductors individually insulated by a polymeric material and coated with a protective sheath, which is also made of a polymeric material. Signal transmission cables typically are shielded by a thin conductive foil and include a drain wire in contact therewith, running the length of the cable, that is used to terminate the foil shield. A coaxial electrical cable for high speed transmission of electric signals generally comprises a metallic inner conductor surrounded by a dielectric insulating material, which in turn is surrounded by an electrically-conductive outer material that provides a shield against passage of extraneous external electrical signals or noise. Flat multiconductor ribbon cable is used extensively in the electronics industry, especially in the computer field. Flexible flat cable has been widely used in applications such as the cable connecting the printed circuit boards of electronic apparatuses. Flat ribbon cables usually comprise a large number of cylindrical stranded or solid conductors extending in parallel and spaced equidistant from each other in a single plane. These conductors are covered by a polymeric insulation in the shape of cylinders surrounding each conductor.
