Data cable
Data is usually transmitted by means of insulated electrical conductors surrounded by one or more metallic shields, the shield or shields being enclosed within a jacket. High performance electrical cables are often used to transmit electrical signals between devices or components of a network. High-speed data communications media typically include pairs of insulated conductors twisted together to form a balanced transmission line. A twisted pair includes two electrically insulated conductors arranged together in a spiral form. The twisted pairs facilitate forming a balanced transmission line for data communications. One or more twisted pairs may subsequently be bundled and/or bound together to form a data communication cable. As a data transmission cable, a differential data transmission cable, for example, comprises a structure in which a shield is provided so as to cover a pair of conductors each coated with an insulator. The data is represented in transmission by polarity reversals on the conductor pair, and the receiver or other equipment coupled to the receiving end of the cable determines the relative voltage difference between the conductors. Differential signal transmission cables have a variety of desirable electrical characteristics, including immunity to electrical noise or other electrical interferences.
