Cable management system

Modern electrical and electronic equipment commonly includes extensive cabling within the enclosure which must be managed rather than allowed to dangle from locations of connection such as the backplane of the device. Cable management racks and brackets or cable management systems are designed to permit the installation, organization, routing and protection of all types of cable, including traditional metal wire and fiber-optic cables. Such systems help manage difficult to accommodate and/or bulky cables used to provide communication paths between electrical components. Cable management systems proffer many advantages. Cable management systems provide a framework in which cables may terminate or interconnect with other cables so as to facilitate centralized administration of data transmissions and data processing. They permit easier access to electrical components housed within the rack itself. They also make it easier and less time consuming to find a particular cable or circuit during equipment maintenance and during downtimes. Cable management systems often provide means for mounting patch panels thereto so as to provide easy mating of connectors. Patch panels and other electronic modules are typically connected to the cable management systems by bolts or screws. Cable management systems also help to prevent cables from becoming entangled and provide strain relief. Numerous cable management systems exist today and are used in various electronics equipment applications, such as telecommunications, data transmission, networking, video and the like. Telecommunications systems commonly include cables (e.g., fiber optic cables or copper twisted pair cables) for interconnecting pieces of telecommunications equipment. With the increasing volume of communication and data cables being incorporated into buildings cable management systems are becoming more and more critical. Cable management involves efficiently routing cables to minimize the space occupied by such cables. Cable management also involves routing cables in an orderly manner so as to reduce the likelihood of cable tangling. Ease of cable organization is also a factor related to effective cable management.
