Braided cable

Braided cables are used for many applications including carrying current within or between electrical equipment. Braided cable consists of braided fine wire of bare, tinned or plated copper which is not coated with dielectric material. The use of braided cable to carry current is generally used due to the flexibility of the cable which allows bending of the cable in multiple orientations due to the braided arrangement of the cable. The braided construction enables the cable to be expanded locally by stretching, separating the braids such as to create an aperture therethrough. A braided wire formed by weaving long conductors each having a circular section, is usually used as an outer conductor of the coaxial cable, the section being perpendicular to the axis of the conductor. Coaxial cable is commonly used for many applications, such as transmission of radio frequency signals, cable television signals and cellular telephone broadcast signals. Commercially available coaxial cables comprise basically four types: braided shield cable; smooth-walled cable; annular corrugated cable; and helical corrugated cable. Coaxial cables for transmitting electronic signals have been widely used for many decades including particularly coaxial cables having an outer conductive grounding and shielding structure in the form of small conductive wires woven into a braided sleeve. The use of braiding makes the cable flexible and offers a degree of protection against signals being induced into the coaxial cable to interfere with signals carried therein. The increased utilization of such cable however, caused a resulting problem of electromagnetic interference (EMI) which results in the unintended transfer and obstruction of electronic signals. Braided cables can be used in the form of a sleeve having continuous circumference to be disposed around other electrical conductor wires for the purpose of shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) when it is connected to ground at its terminations. In coaxial cables with braided inner conductor woven about a core, the latter is made either of a massive round plastic cord or of a stable plastic tube.
