Surround sound system

Surround sound systems refer to sound reproduction systems that use multiple channels and speakers to provide a listener with simulate placement of sound sources. Surround sound audio is growing rapidly due to the proliferation of home theaters, digital television, surround sound music, and computer games. Many people desire to have complete audio/video systems installed at their own homes to make so called "home theaters" for enjoying individualized entertainment. Home theater systems typically comprise compact disc/digital video disc (CD/DVD) players and/or changers, audio/visual (A/V) receivers, tuners, equalizers, headphones, satellite speakers, center channel speakers, woofers, and subwoofers. High-end home entertainment systems have multichannel audio systems to provide theater sound effects. Typically, the listener is positioned between multiple speakers. By playing a sound at different intensities through one or more of the speakers, the sound is positioned with respect to the listener. A typical surround multichannel system may include six channels. These channels typically consist of a left, right and center front channel, a left and right surround channel and a subwoofer channel. Typically, the signals are generated by surround sound processors, and the source signals may either incorporate positional encoding by means of specific phase differences and amplitude ratios, or may be unencoded. By using surround sound along with a theater's large projection screen, an audience can be more completely immersed in the movie experience.
