Phone headset
A variety of headsets have been developed for use with telephone systems. The primary users of these headsets are attendants such as receptionists, switchboard operators and reservation clerks who spend a majority of the day speaking on the telephone. Telephone headsets have proven to be very popular because they reduce the weight and difficulty associated with holding a telephone handset for extended periods of time. Phone headsets are commonly used by telephone operators, receptionists, and others who need to keep their hands free while listening and speaking over a telephone or other voice link. Typically these headsets will have a headband passing over the user's head, with an earphone at each end of the band and a microphone riding at the end of a boom extending from the headband. Telephone headsets permit the use of a telephone microphone and earphone while freeing the user's hands for other activities such as note taking and computer keyboard entry. A typical headset includes at least one receiver positioned over or inside an ear, and a microphone boom extending to adjacent the user's mouth. An amplifier is typically interconnected between the telephone base and the headset. A coiled cord is typically provided between the amplifier and the headset. Telephone headset amplifiers provide an interface between the telephone and the headset worn by the telephone operator. The headset amplifier receives the audio signal from the telephone, limits the maximum amplitude of the audio signal to improve operator safety, and provides a power output to drive the earphone part of the telephone headset. Telephone headset adapters allow the connection of a headset to a variety of telephones by adjusting for connector wiring and signal level differences at the handset modular port of the telephone. Headset adapters also allow for the selection between a headset or a handset as the talk/listen device that functions with the telephone set. Wireless headsets offer a potentially life saving hands free mode of operation for motor vehicles and other activities which require continuous active use of two hands. The user wears the wireless headset with microphone and speakers, leaves the base unit safely tucked away, and is in no danger of having one or more hands entangled in a cord or used to control the base device.
