DJ equipment
A disc jockey, referred to as DJ, manipulates an audio reproducing apparatus and reproduces analogue audio data. A DJ may vary the sound characteristics of the DJ's voice during the announcement such that the announcement begins with sound characteristics consistent with those of the previous song and ends with sound characteristics consistent with those of the upcoming song. Disc jockeys use physical manipulation of one or more phonograph records to create myriad special audio effects. Some of these manipulations are called "scratching" or, in more formal settings, turntablism. The scratch reproduction is a specialized reproducing technique which generates an effective sound like a scratch sound. In scratch reproduction the sound material on the vinyl disk is used to produce rhythmic sound through a combined manual movement of the vinyl disk and a movement of a volume controller on the mixing desk. When the user performs the scratch reproduction by use of the analogue record, this kind of scratch sound is generated by turning the analogue record rapidly in forward direction and in reverse direction. DJs use special turntables and special turntable slip mats which allow controlled slippage between the disc and the turntable platter, as well as other specialized equipment to perform these manipulations. In a DJ audio reproducing system, a disc such as a compact disc (CD) is inserted into the DJ apparatus via a disc insertion opening. A round operation portion known as a jog dial is provided on an operation panel. When the jog dial is manually rotated by a user, various playback instructions such as playback and search are input.
