Portable speaker

Portable personal electronic appliances have become increasingly popular as new technologies have allowed for the production of affordable devices with a high degree of functionality. This demand for smaller size with ever increasing capability has required a tremendous effort to continually shrink many of the components contained within the device. There are many situations where it is desirable to provide audio output for personal use to be worn or carried near the body. This audio output could be used for portable entertainment, personal communications, and the like. These personal and portable communication and entertainment products include, for example, cellular phones, radios, tape players, and audio portions of portable video systems and personal monitors. One such device is the portable digital audio player such as a MP3 player or an iPod, which downloads digital audio data, stores those data in a read-writeable memory, and converts those data into audio on user demand. The digital data is downloaded from a network or retrieved from a fixed medium. An audio decoder, supported by appropriate firmware, retrieves the encoded data from memory, applies the corresponding decoding algorithm and coverts the decoded data into analog form for driving a headset or other portable speaker system. Speakers are devices that translate electronic signals into sound. While a variety of speakers have been around for a long time, recent developments in the portability of music in digital form have caused an increase in the demand for systems that can reproduce the music with high-fidelity. Portable speaker equipment, particularly amplifiers for electronic amplification of musical instruments, have been produced with acoustical speakers mounted in speaker enclosures.
