In-ceiling speaker

A speaker used as an acoustic output means in an audio/video system or multimedia system comprises a main speaker part for generating sound, and a case for containing and holding the main speaker part inside. Because of the physiology of the ear, human hearing is amazingly capable of assigning a directional aspect to sound. Modern surround-sound systems simulate a desired three-dimensional environment by directing sound to the listener from various orientations, including front, side, back, floor and ceiling propagation. Audio speaker systems have traditionally been mounted or installed into homes so that the audio speaker systems and specifically the speaker are visible to the occupants of the room. Since the speaker size is often significant, an ability to conceal the speaker so as to improve the overall appearance of the room would be desirable. Speaker assemblies have been developed that are capable of being panel-mounted, thereby allowing the speaker assembly to be recessed within a panel, such as a wall, floor or ceiling panel. This configuration provides an aesthetically appealing appearance and consumes little physical space on the exterior side of the panel. Various loudspeakers have been disclosed and are commercially available for mounting in a ceiling.
