Audio speaker

Loudspeakers, or speakers, are well known in the art and are commonly used in a variety of applications, such as in home theater stereo systems, car audio systems, indoor and outdoor concert halls. A speaker is essentially an electroacoustic transducer that uses a magnetic circuit to achieve acoustic radiation. A loudspeaker typically includes an acoustic transducer comprised of an electromechanical device which converts an electrical signal into acoustical energy in the form of sound waves and an enclosure for directing the sound waves produced upon application of the electrical signal. While the construction of a speaker can vary widely, many speakers include a voice coil, a magnet, and a diaphragm. The voice coil is a coil of wire. The magnet is a permanent magnet. The diaphragm is typically constructed with a piece of paper or plastic and is attached to the coil. In operation, an alternating current from an amplifier flows through the voice coil which produces a changing magnetic field around the voice coil. The changing magnetic field around the voice coil interacts with the magnetic field produced by the permanent magnet to produce reciprocal forces on the voice coil representing the current in the voice coil. Theaudio speaker typically comprises a driver unit and an enclosure. The driver unit acts as set forth above to generate the audio wave. The enclosure acts to suspend the driver unit as desired and contain the sound wave generated by the driver unit on the rear side. Audio speakers often are mounted in cabinets or other support structures both to protect the speakers and to affect and determine the tonal quality of sounds produced by the speakers. Various electrical components, such as a crossover, an L-pad and a terminal cup, are disposed within the cabinet and are electrically connected to an amplifier for the stereo system. One or more speaker units, such as tweeters and woofers, are positioned and sealed within associated holes formed into the surface of the cabinet.
