In a conventional method of recording, reproducing, and editing audio signals, analog audio signals are magnetically recorded on a magnetic tape, and the recorded audio signals are reproduced and edited. With the progress of digital technique, processing of a large capacity of data is enabled and digital recording is adopted for recording various signals. Digital audio recorders have been developed in which the audio information is stored as digital data in a solid state memory. A digital audio recorder uses a memory card as a record medium and employs a data compressing method which allows data to be restored in a high quality for recording/reproducing. An audio signal compressed with a variety of compression formats, represented by MP3, is also often replayed with computers. |

An optical mouse provides precise detection of a movement of user's hand and its movement, as compared with a conventional mechanical ball mouse. In optical mice, a light emitted from a light source is reflected by an operating surface, and the reflected light passes through a lens to be inputted to an image sensor made of semiconductor process. The optical mouse determines its own position relative to the surface by comparing the differences between consecutive images. The optical mouse measures a quantity of the light projected to the image sensor and stores a pattern made by comparing a difference between pixels of the image sensor. The mouse generates cursor signals corresponding to its movement, converts the signals to electrical signals, and transmits the electric signal to the computer. |

Digital television is becoming increasingly popular in the world. Compared with conventional analog broadcasting, the digital broadcasting is characterized in that broadcasting of higher video quality and higher audio quality can be done in the same frequency band. A digital TV broadcasting system in general uses a terrestrial VSB (vestigial side band) transmission system. Digital television receivers include an antenna, a tuner, a demodulator and a decoder coupled to a display. The digital TV decoder typically has an MPEG video decoder, a unit for outputting decoded video data, and an on screen display (OSD) unit. The decoder processes a bit stream corresponding to each class inclusive of discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients and motion vector information. |

Remote keyless entry (RKE) systems are used in vehicles to provide a convenient way to lock and unlock vehicle doors. RKE systems utilize an RF transmitter contained in a key fob to broadcast remote entry commands to a vehicle receiver to allow a user to remotely lock and unlock doors and perform other convenience functions. The receiver is typically provided in the vehicle for receiving the vehicle device function signals. The RKE transmitter positioned in a key fob for communication with an antenna in the vehicle. It is activated by the driver to send out a modulated signal including an ID code unique to the transmitter and an operation command code. The keyless entry receiver which receives a radio signal demodulates the signal to determine whether it is from the paired transmitter. |

A phase-locked loop (PLL) is an electronic circuit that controls an oscillator in order to lock the phase of an output signal to the phase of a reference signal. Phase-locked loop systems typically include a phase frequency detector, charge pump and voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) connected in a feedback configuration. The PLL circuit receives an input reference frequency from a signal and outputs a signal having a frequency that is a multiple of the input reference frequency. Phase-locked loops are often used as clock regenerators or frequency synthesizers in digital systems. The PLL circuit locks the output frequency to be in phase with the input frequency. Phase-locked loops are commonly used in mobile communications equipment, modem signal generators, and ADSL applications. |

An optical attenuator is a passive optical component for reducing optical power propagating in an optical fiber, and may perform fixed or variable attenuation. Optical power levels are regulated over wide ranges based on a configuration of an optical telecommunication system. An optical attenuator is used in optical communication networks to reduce an optical power when an optical signal with an excessive power level greater than an allowed power level is received to an optical signal receiver. Variable optical attenuators (VOA) are used to attenuate light beams in optical systems such as fiber optic communication systems. Variable optical attenuators are commonly formed of a blocking structure disposed in a free space region between an input waveguide and an output waveguide. |

A data recorder refers to any electronic, electro-mechanical, or electro-chemical apparatus that utilize sensor-based technologies for measuring and tracking the relevant data over time, including both storing such data for later reading and enabling real-time access to the data. Data recorders are used to monitor, record and analyze process and equipment behavior in many process, manufacturing, research, and utility applications. Commercial aircraft employ data recorders to aid in the accident reconstruction and diagnostic process. In electrical utilities, data recorders monitor electrical power lines for signal fluctuations indicative of problems in the transmission line. Data recorders are ultimately utilized to store data so that such data may be accessed and analyzed at a later time. |
