Global positioning system (GPS) is a space-based positioning and velocity system permitting users of GPS receivers to determine their respective positions to a high degree of accuracy. A GPS receiver is composed of an antenna unit for receiving high frequency satellite signals and a processing unit for processing the signals to compute positional coordinates of the GPS receiver. Signals sent from GPS satellites may be used by location measuring applications to determine latitude and longitude of a receiver. Cellular phones are commonly used together with GPS receivers for communicating the location of the receiver. The GPS system requires a GPS antenna for receiving radio wave transmitted from satellites. Antennas for GPS receivers are divided into a ceramic patch antenna and a helix antenna. |

A resistor is an electrical component designed to have an electrical resistance independent of the applied current or voltage. A resistor may have either a fixed resistance or a variable resistance. Variable resistors have been found widely useful in versatile mechanical instruments and electrical or electronic devices. The variable resistor basically includes an elongate electrical resistor which is connected across the supply voltage and a wiper slidable along the resistor in electrical contact with the resistor and electrically connected via a device to be controlled to one end of the resistor. Resistors typically comprise a resistive material. Carbon film type variable resistors have been generally extensively utilized as variable resistors for use in radio receivers, audio amplifiers and TV receivers. |

An intercom, short for intercommunicating telephone, is a communication system linking different rooms within a building or different places. Intercom systems provide communication between two or more remotely located individuals. Intercom systems are used in a variety of commercial contexts to provide communication between two or more individuals located remote from one another. A vehicle voice enhancement system uses intercom systems to facilitate conversations of passengers sitting within different zones of a vehicle. The conference-type intercom systems include a crosspoint switch which allows any user to communicate with any selectable mix of the remainder of the users. A modern home potentially has a great number of sophisticated electrical systems, including intercom systems. |

Speaker systems are used in various apparatuses for the purpose of listening to music or diverse sound information. Audio systems are designed to deliver good quality sound throughout as wide an area as possible without degrading directionality of the sound. Speaker systems are often provided with speaker components specifically adapted for operating at different frequency ranges, including low range, mid range and high range. Speakers of different ranges may be used and installed in a cabinet to increase the sound of different frequencies. Subwoofers are typically used with stereo amplifiers or home entertainment systems to give an enhanced, realistic listening experience. Home entertainment systems have multichannel surround sound systems with three or more channels to provide theater sound effects. |

A USB flash drive is a non-volatile memory device integrated with a USB interface. Flash memory is a type of nonvolatile rewritable memory useful in a wide variety of digital data applications that require occasional writing and/or rewriting of data, nonvolatile storage, and relatively high-speed read capability. USB provides an expandable, hot-pluggable serial interface that ensures a standard, low-cost connection for peripheral devices such as keyboards, mice, joysticks, printers, scanners, storage devices, and modems. A flash memory card includes an internal, high-speed solid-state memory capable of persistently storing data without application of power. A wide variety of flash memory cards have been recently introduced, each having different capacities, access speeds, formats, interfaces, and connectors. |

A home theater system reproduces the impact and sense of movie-like reality and the sensation of a movie theater. A modern home theater system may comprise a large screen television or display, a stereo receiver, a VCR, a cable decoder, a DVD system, a high power audio amplifier unit, cassette or CD players, and several speaker systems. The quality of sound and video experienced in home entertainment systems is mostly determined by the quality of the components in the final stage of the signal path: the speakers and the display devices. Most home theater systems are equipped with image projectors to display a movie in a home theater environment. Projectors for home theaters are typically liquid crystal projectors, and digital light processing (DLP) projector that uses a digital mirror device. |

A device for dividing or combining the wireless signals is called a power divider/combiner. A power divider is an interdependent device calculating a vector sum total of at least two signals. Powder dividers take a signal at a common terminal and divide the signal among a series of signal paths while maintaining desired impedances at the common terminal and at all output terminals. Power divider circuits are used in radio frequency applications to split an input signal over two or more outputs so that the input signal can be processed in parallel in subsequent stages. Power dividers are used in a transmitter for combining signals from a plurality of lower power devices to form a high power signal for transmission through an antenna. Optical power dividers are used in optical communications networks. |
