People use locks and keys to protect their life and properties against infringements by others. These locks control physical access to homes, offices, buildings, and vehicles. Locks have long been accessed using a mechanical key, however, electronic locks have become more prevalent. The electronic control of devices such as door locks can be a great convenience and time save for a user. Electronic locks provide for increased security since the lock can be reprogrammed so that it will not accept keys which it would previously accept. Electronic dial combination locks allow authorized personnel to access otherwise inaccessible security regions such as safes, lock boxes, storage rooms and the like. Electronic locks are often configured to perform a particular type of processing for a given functionality. There are various types of electronic locks developed and available in the market, such as IC cards, magnetic cards, combination locks, and wireless remote-control locks. These electronic locks are electrically activated to a locked or an unlocked condition using a myriad of technologies. Electronic locks of various kinds generally include an authorization module for selectively allowing activation of the lock by certain keys or personnel, an electromechanical actuation system for generating the required mechanical movement of the lock mechanism, and a control system for controlling the functions performed by the actuation system in response to authorized activation of the lock.
