A switching power supply unit controls electric power that provides to a load by turning on and off a switch connected in series or parallel with the load. Switching power supplies convert unregulated power from batteries or other sources to a regulated voltage required to operate the device. In a switching power supply an input voltage is modulated by a switch and the modulated waveform is passed through an inductance, rectified and filtered to provide an output of a controlled value. A switching mode power supply provides power supply function through low loss components such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers, and power switches that are turned on and off to transfer energy from the input to the output in discrete packets. A feedback control circuit is used to regulate the energy transfer to maintain a constant output voltage within certain load limits of the circuit. Switching power supplies are widely used as power supplies for electrical and electronic equipment such as computers, home electronics, automobiles and various other products. Typical switching power supplies are units (DC/DC converters) that first use switching circuits to convert a DC input to AC and then convert it back to DC, and thus it is possible to obtain DC output of a different voltage than the input voltage.
