The light-emitting diode (LED) has been received a considerable acceptance for its advantages such as long lifetime, small size, low heat generation, low power consumption, high response speed, monochromic lighting ability, etc. and has been widely used in applications such as computer peripherals, clock displays, display panels, and many other digital products. The light-emitting diode uses the intrinsic property of semiconductors to emit light, whose principle is different from that of a normal lamp. A typical light-emitting diode comprises a light-emitting diode die for emitting light and having a positive terminal and a negative terminal for electrically contacting the die, a lead frame comprising a positive lead frame portion and a negative lead frame portion. An LED is able to emit light when a forward bias (voltage) is imposed on the semiconductor PN junction. The red, green, and blue LEDs are arranged in various shapes of arrays in an advertising billboard to display dynamic images. Because of their high efficiency and stability, LEDs are also widely used to replace conventional small light bulbs as indicators in equipment to display the operating status. LEDs are used in many different applications for generating high intensity light beams. For example, automotive headlights, tail lamps, flashlights, search lights, and other lighting devices may employ an array of LEDs as its lighting source. An LED lamp capable of emitting white light, obtained by mounting a plurality of LED chips in one lamp or by combining an LED chip with a fluorescent substance, is expected as a future illumination light source.
