A wide range of electrical control systems are available in which an electrical circuit is switched from one state to another by means of the human touch. Touch control lamps, both on/off and dimming types, have grown in popularity over the years, offering solid-state control of the lamp with a touch of the lamp's metallized body parts. Touch responsive sockets have been designed for receiving an electric light bulb and for controlling the power delivered to the light bulb in response to the touching of an electrically conductive part of the lamp. In such lamps, the lamp base is generally made of an electrically conductive material such that when an individual touches the lamp anywhere on the lamp base the switch will be activated. By touching the lamp, a user may turn the lamp on and off as well as adjust the light level.
