A standard lamp holder for a high-voltage metal-halide lamp has a ceramic or porcelain socket having an inner end and forming an outwardly open hole defining an axis and adapted to fit with a base of a high-voltage lamp, a base fittable against the inner end, and a U-shaped clip holding the socket to the base. A standard two-part holder for a high-voltage lamp has a core or insert part into which the lamp end is fitted, and an outer part into which the core part is in turn fitted. Appropriate formations interconnect the two parts and connections and terminals are provided to conduct electricity from outside the outer part to contacts on the lamp in the core part. There are many lamp holder assemblies currently available which are adapted to fit incandescent sockets and to provide both mechanical support and electrical input power for various devices including fluorescent lamp systems. Generally, a common lamp holder for fluorescent lamp has a holding recess for receiving and holding each of metal caps displaced at the opposite ends of a fluorescent lamp. The holding recess is usually provided with a pair of fitting grooves each having a strip-shaped copper terminal adapted to be contacted with each of pins extending outwardly from the metal cap. Lamp holders are commonly used in applications in which they are subject to vibrations or impacts, such as in motor vehicles, airplanes, or industrial areas subject to vibrations from heavy machinery. Lamp holders are also used in corrosive applications, such as in marine environments.
