Incandescent light bulbs represent the main source of domestic lighting. Incandescent bulbs are commonly used in a variety of applications to provide light. Incandescent light bulbs are commonly used in most households and in many commercial establishments. For example, incandescent bulbs may be used as a light source for illuminated switches, lighted panels, displays, legends, indicators, and in a variety of other applications. Incandescent bulb is widely used because it can be lighted using simple fixtures without using a lighting circuit such as a ballast, differently from a discharge lamp. A incandescent bulb typically includes a filament made of a conductive material, a bulb which envelops the filament, and a noble gas which is filled in the bulb, and has a high color rendering property. The ends of the wire filament are connected to, and supported by, the outer ends of corresponding current supply wires. When current flows through the wire filament, it heats to a very high temperature and gives off visible light. A vacuum may be drawn on the glass envelope or it may be filled with an inert gas such as krypton, halogen or xenon which can contribute to the life-span and efficiency of the light bulb. Although incandescent bulbs may provide a satisfactory degree of illumination, they also carry with them a number of disadvantages. Incandescent bulbs have a limited life time and after a certain number of hours of operation, the bulbs will fail. Incandescent bulbs can generate enough heat to cause burns when used in some applications. Incandescent bulbs have a relatively short life span, and may require frequent replacement.
